Our First Daring Baker Challenge!

From reading food blogs (like this one!), I learned of the Daring Kitchen, a website that food bloggers can join if they would like to participate in either cooking or baking challenges (we signed up for both.)

The February 2010 Daring Bakers’ challenge was hosted by Aparna of My Diverse Kitchen and Deeba of Passionate About Baking. They chose Tiramisu as the challenge for the month. Their challenge recipe is based on recipes from The Washington Post, Cordon Bleu at Home and Baking Obsession.

And not just Tiramisu, but Tiramisu with every element made from scratch. Including the mascarpone cheese!

Recipe Sources:

Mascarpone Cheese – Vera’s Recipe (Baking Obsession) for Homemade Mascarpone Cheese.
Savoiardi/ Ladyfinger Biscuits – Recipe from Cordon Bleu At Home
Tiramisu – Carminantonio’s Tiramisu from The Washington Post, July 11 2007

The recipe worked out great! We only made one adjustment: we added three sheets of gelatin to the zabaglione. It was a long process, though, and I think in the future we will continue to make our own mascarpone and lady fingers, but we’ll use John’s method for the tiramisu as well as his lady fingers recipe.
